Correspondence, course materials, student records, publications, and related printed materials of the Library School of the New York Public Library, 1900-1927. This collection consists chiefly of course related materials such as reading lists, syllabi, examinations, practice work, lecture notes, and related printed materials. The student records include application and placement files, grades, and correspondence with alumni. There are four boxes of correspondence and lecture notes of Mary Wright Plummer, Principal of the School, 1911-1916. Her files include correspondence and lecture notes dating back to her position as Director of the Pratt Institute Library School, 1896-1911. Also, a box of lecture notes of Mary Louisa Sutliff who taught at the School from 1911 to 1926.

A library school was opened at The New York Public Library in October of 1911. Edwin Anderson, Assistant Director of The Library from 1908 to 1913, persuaded Andrew Carnegie to finance the establishment of the school, which was designed primarily to provide trained assistants for the staff of The Library.
